And So The Transition Begins

A couple of weeks ago, we moved Lola into her very own big girl bed. We considered many options in regards to a bed for her. Was she ready to move out of a crib? Would she be safe in a raised toddler bed? Should we buy a toddler mattress to put on the floor first? Should we consider a twin size mattress on the floor? After many long discussions, Rob and I decided we would move Lola to a twin mattress that would stay on the floor. Lola is a long girl and we would often hear her hit the sides of her crib which would inadvertently disrupt her sleep. We did not feel that Lola was ready to sleep in a raised bed as her comprehension...

And Of Course, a Lola Update

Lola has been one busy little girl which means that makes us busy by default. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, to us Lola is just Lola. Sure we know she has challenges and quirks, crazy schedules and many appointments, medicines and much much more but that is the life of our little girl. It’s the only life with a child that we know. When I don’t post about Lola, it’s simply because Lola is just busy being a typical toddler. She’s sassy and hornery. She is on a food strike where all she wants is peanut butter sandwiches and crunchy snacks. She throws fits because she can’t voice what she wants which has led us to believe that “the terrible twos” really do exist....

Big Sisters Have to be Big Girls

Last night Rob and I began to have the discussion about where new baby’s room will be. Will she (no…not the sex, just using it for writing purposes) take Lola’s room, will she use Lola’s crib, will we keep the same theme and the list goes on. Of course that conversation led to heavy thinking on my part like will I love this baby as much as Lola, will Lola feel left out, will they love each other, are we really responsible enough to care for another tiny being and my mind continued to go in crazy directions (hey I’m a woman a wildly emotional pregnant woman). After much discussion and after many reassurances the bottom line was this…it’s time to let Lola grow up. You know, everyone...

Nudging Baby Bird Out of the Nest

When we purchased our new home, there was a birds nest right outside the kitchen window. We often pondered if a bird actually lived there since we had yet to see one and then one day…a robin appeared. I appropriately named her Robin and from that day forward she was always in her nest. As was suspected, she was laying eggs and sure enough her eggs hatched a few weeks ago. I can’t quite put my finger on the attachment I had over these birds, but I was much like a mama bird myself. I would annoyingly ask Rob questions about the size of the nest, if he thought the birds would fall out (yes, I even put a cushion down in case they fell) and so on....

Just Living

Over the past couple of weeks, I have made a valiant effort to sit down and write a post. But each time, I had to think and think about what to write about. This is rare for me because as you all know…I always have something to say. This blog started out in Costa Rica. It was originally called “Live Love Travel Souls” and it was pre-marriage and pre-Lola. Rob and I thought we were going to be trekking around to various adventures and the blog would be a great way to share our newfound lives with our family and friends in the States. Then I became pregnant so I was prompted by Rob to write about my pregnancy in a foreign country. Then we got married so...
