Random Lola News – Because I Can’t Think of a Title!

The thing about having a child with special needs is that they are constantly being looked at as if they were in a fish bowl. We try not to put that pressure on Lola as she needs to develop at her own pace, but you can’t help but get crazy excited when she starts accomplishing new tasks. Some days she does more than others and that of course is to be expected. Lately it seems as if the occupational therapy stuff is boring her. She is everywhere, but present yet I can’t help but wonder if that is Lola just being a baby. Their attention gets preoccupied easily so I’m sure doing something repetitive can indeed become a bit cumbersome. Therefore Rob and I have been implementing more...

Mantras to Live by When you Have a Special Needs Kid

I often am asked about how I handle having a child with a neurological disorder or more so…a child with a so-called disability. In truth, I don’t know how I’ve handled it and my husband would probably say that many days I didn’t handle it gracefully. There are so many ups and downs because nothing can prepare you for a having a child that a book simply can’t describe to you. In the beginning when everything was unknown, I was a wreck. I didn’t understand why Lola and in all honesty I still don’t. But you just learn to accept what life has given you and you move forward.
