Getting Back Up

Have you ever slipped and fallen in front of a huge crowd of people? Do you pretend like something somehow jumped out in front of you causing you to fall? Do you simply put your head down and act like it didn’t happen at all? Or do you accept that yes, you just made the biggest ass of yourself, but hey…who doesn’t and really…who’s going to remember anyway? I admit it…you all saw me fall last week. I couldn’t blame it on an obscure object that disrupted my path as I knew right where I was walking. I couldn’t act like it didn’t happen because that’s probably what got me in the situation in the first place. So yeah I fell and I fell hard, but I stood...

Improvements and Much “More”

Lola girl is finally over her first cold and the second top tooth is ever present which means…our happy baby is back! [column size=”1-3″ last=”0″ style=”0″][/column] [column size=”1-3″ last=”0″ style=”0″][/column] [column size=”1-3″ last=”1″ style=”0″][/column] We have witnessed such changes in Lola this past week. There is a level of awareness that is emerging in really all aspects of her life. She is becoming aware of her body and its movement. She watches her hand as she waves it by or she’ll look at her toes as they wiggle. The other day at lunch, I snapped this photo of Lola observantly watching as her finger tapped the table. She’s also much more purposeful as she plays. Of course she still bangs everything in an effort to hear a noise...

B-I-N-G-O

Our good friend, Maria volunteers for the Lion’s Club of Costa Rica and this year they decided to hold a BINGO gathering in order to help raise money for things like wheelchairs, crutches, food and other essential items. Costa Ricans love BINGO and I have to admit…now I do too. You can win anything from an entire chicken to eggs to mattresses to nice candle holders and even money. Heck the last time I played, I won some tupperware and a lotto ticket. Anyone that knows me can tell you I am all about playing the lotto. Not only do you play, you get to eat good Costa Rican food too. And as Gringos, well we always get the funny stares because it is not a Gringo sport....

Welcome to Michigan

Home sweet home To some crazy ass weather From Indianapolis, we drove to my home state of Michigan.  It had been a few years since I had been back, so you could say I was excited.  Lola did awesome (yet again) for the four hour drive.  She didn’t even wake up when her dad and I were freaking out as we hit the crazy weather at the Michigan border.  The winds were ridiculously strong, the rain was coming at us sideways and all I could think was we were about to be in a tornado.  Thankfully it passed after a few minutes of sitting on the side of the road.  Michigan – that is just one more reason why I love you.  You are so unpredictable!...

Phase One of PT

After nine hours of straight sleep last night, I thought for sure today would be an excellent day for Lola’s PT… at least that’s what I thought before our actual day began.  I knew she was in a funk, but canceling PT was simply not an option.  We knew poor Moises would endure yet again and sure enough he did.  The wonderful thing about Lola’s PT is that we are given all of the exercises to do at home with her.  Since a baby’s mood is quite unpredictable and because most children thrive in their own home, Moises essentially teaches the parents how to be therapists as well.  Today he had Rob take pictures with his camera (I still took plenty with my own) while he went through...
