Third Wedding and a Birthday

Hard to believe so much time has passed since my last blog post. It’s not that nothing has gone on — it’s simply that life has been too jammed packed with excitement to sit down and actually write about it. Wedding #3 Three years ago, Rob and I did what most couples only dream of doing…we had a “destination wedding” in Costa Rica. Although how lucky for us that we actually were living in Costa Rica when we decided to take that leap into blissful eternity. Our first ceremony was when we were legally married by a Costa Rican lawyer and then a few days later we said our vows publicly in a beautiful union amongst all of our family and friends. But when we moved back to...

Happy Birthday Lola!!

Dear Lola, Two years ago today, my life was transformed into an existence I couldn’t have imagined possible…that was because you were brought into the world. Before I had you, I knew life was purposeful because I was healthy, I had a good family, I met my soulmate (your Daddy) and I was happy…genuinely happy. Yet even amongst my happiness, I knew something was missing. I knew I had more love to give and I knew your father and I were ready to expand our love into that of a child. The wish for having you was there and nine months later you were laid upon my chest and I knew from the very moment I saw you that life was finally complete. Your two years on this...

Birthday Wishes for Lola

Hard to believe we’ll have a two year old this week as Lola’s birthday is on Friday, January 4th. I’ve received a lot of questions about what to get her and to be honest, the girl really doesn’t need anything. I’ve been trying to come up with ideas, but only one keeps coming to mind. While just a good birthday thought would do yet if you wish to do something, please consider donating to VIPS-Bloomington on Lola’s behalf. This may not seem like it benefits Lola, but in truth, it definitely does. If VIPS doesn’t get funding then Lola as well as other blind and visually impaired kids don’t get the vision services they so badly need. Lola will most likely be in VIPS for another year (she’ll...

Backspacing and Blank Screens

Tonight as I sit here at the computer, I’m telling Rob that I just can’t seem to get my thoughts down in a blog post. It’s as if I have much too share, but every time I begin typing I quickly hit backspace, backspace, backspace until there is nothing but a blank screen again. I suppose this so-called “writer’s block” is running parallel with Lola’s undetermined diagnosis. We had one before and although lissencephaly was a hard diagnosis to swallow…at least we had one. But now Lola’s medical life has taken another unexpected turn when the lissencephaly diagnosis was retracted by a MRI performed here in the U.S. It’s as if someone is hitting backspace and all we are left with is yet another blank screen. I guess...

Lola’s Birthday – Part Two

On Saturday, we threw Lola a First Birthday/Crafting Party. We wanted to do something fun, but different for Lola. Rather than relying solely on pictures and tales from her old Mom and Dad of how special her first birthday was, we thought having mementos made by those that love her would give Lola fun memories for many years. The theme for Lola’s party was not Barbies, owls or other cute girly things, instead we opted for a theme that would be accommodating to Lola’s sight…black, white and red. The party was held at our friends, Mike and Mickey’s, who also happened to supply most of the crafts and books as crafting parties are a regular occurrence at their home. I was a bit shocked and overwhelmed (as I...
